DOOM: The Dark Ages – FAQ & Known Issues

Share

Hey Slayers — here’s a quick rundown of the most common questions and known bugs/issues in DOOM: The Dark Ages.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q1: What platforms is DOOM: The Dark Ages on?
A: It’s launching on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC (Steam + Microsoft Store). Yes, it’s a day-one Game Pass title.

Q2: Is this a direct sequel to DOOM Eternal?
A: Not exactly. It’s more of a prequel, diving into the Slayer’s origins during a dark, medieval-inspired age of Hell vs humanity.

Q3: What’s the setting like?
A: Think brutalist castles, nightmarish siege engines, and dark fantasy vibes — all layered over classic DOOM carnage. There’s still plenty of high-tech mixed in, but it’s got a gritty, ancient feel.

Q4: Are the classic weapons back?
A: Yep — most of the fan-favorites return, but many have a new look to match the Dark Ages setting. There are also a few brand-new tools of destruction we won’t spoil here

Q5: Is multiplayer included?
A: There’s no traditional PvP (yet), but there’s a new “Battalion” mode where players face waves of demons together — kind of like horde mode with some tactical elements.

Q6: Does it support mods?
A: Not officially at launch, but if it’s anything like previous id titles, expect the community to find a way. PC players, keep an eye on Nexus and ModDB.

KNOWN ISSUES (Launch Build)

1. Performance drops on ultra settings (PC)

  • Some users are reporting inconsistent frame rates on max settings, especially in wide open areas with lots of particle effects.
  • Temporary fix: Lower shadows or particle quality, and disable motion blur if needed.

2. Audio desync in cutscenes (all platforms)

  • In some cases, character dialogue is slightly delayed during in-engine cinematics.
  • Workaround: Restarting the game helps in most cases. A fix is on the way.

3. Controller vibration bug (PS5)

  • Haptics occasionally cut out during extended sessions.
  • Temporary fix: Toggling vibration off/on in the settings menu may reset it.

4. Game crashes during save/load on Xbox Series S

  • A rare crash happens when quick-saving during boss fights.
  • Avoid using quick-save during major encounters until patched.

5. Missing textures or UI glitches (PC with AMD GPUs)

  • Some UI elements may flicker or disappear on certain AMD cards.
  • Try updating to the latest drivers. id Software is investigating.

Upcoming Fixes (Planned Patch Notes)

  • Performance optimizations for Series S and mid-range GPUs
