Nintendo is advising Switch 2 owners to enable a “Stop Charging Around 90%” setting to help preserve the battery’s lifespan. The company announced this along with a detailed video on how to find the new setting in a recent Nintendo Today update.

Recently, Nintendo has been releasing videos about system settings on its daily news app, including one that demonstrates using mouse controls on the home screen. The newest video focuses on the Stop Charging Around 90% feature for the Switch 2, explaining that “stopping the charge at about 90% helps reduce battery deterioration.” A video on how to activate this feature was also included and has been shared by industry insider Stealth40K on X.

If you intend to play your Switch 2 often in the long run, you should know about this feature. It’s important to keep the battery healthy to get the most playtime in handheld mode. Currently, Nintendo states that the Switch 2’s battery lasts between two to six and a half hours, depending on the games played. They also mentioned that it takes three hours to charge, but this time may be shorter if a specific new setting is activated.

The Nintendo Switch 2 will be released on June 5.
